Glass Painting Kit Contents/ Material Used in Glass Painting

The basic aim of a kit is to provide everything that is needed to make the most simplest and most complicated pieces of art, in one place. Usually, such kits contain the following materials -

Out- liner:

An out-liner is the basic thing that you need, before you start with your painting. The design that you wish to paint on glass needs to be sketched on the glass. This initial sketch is the rough sketch. It helps you in making the actual painting, and coloring it with ease.

Besides black, the out liner is available in many different colors. Gold, silver, copper, and colorless out liners give the utmost choice to the painter.

You can also make the out liner yourself. You would need fabric glue, ceramic powder and color. Mix the same in a bowl, and it is ready for use.

Paints:

It is all about glass painting, and thus paints are the most essential part of this kit. There are different types of paints. Different glass painting kits provide different paints with different properties. Check the contents written on the kit to know more about the paint.

Different types of paints used in glass painting are -

  • Acrylic paints
  • Oil paints
  • Enamel paints
  • Spray paints, etc.

Beginners usually prefer Acrylic paints, as these are easy to use. Enamel paints and spray paints are a little complicated to use.

There are different colors and shades, but one does not need to buy all these shades. Many shades can be made by mixing colors. Thus, check for the shades. The kit should contain primary shades like Black, Red, Yellow, White, Green, and Blue. With these shades you can make other shades.

Light Catcher Blanks:

Just like the embroidery ring; these are the rings that help you demarcate the area of your painting on the glass. When you use the embroidery ring, you affix it on the cloth, and then start your design in this circle. Similarly, this light catcher will help you in making your glass painting. These catchers are available in the different sizes, and in circular and oval shapes.

Paint brushes:

Paint brushes are categorized by numbers and bristles. Speaking about the bristles, these can be either natural or synthetic. Numbers do not mean the quantity, but it is the method of determining the thickness of the bristles of the brush. The different numbers of brushes are as follows – 000, 00, 1, 2, 3, etc.

Stationary:

Markers, tracing paper, painter's tape, etc., also come along with the kit. When you buy the material for glass painting, you must make sure that you include this in your list.

Templates:

Design templates is another thing that one can usually get while buying materials for glass painting. You can get loads of these designs from the web as well. When you surf the web, for glass painting designs you will get many designs for windows, wall hangings, wine glasses, etc.

If you are good at drawing, you can sketch something yourself, and trace it on the glass, to make the glass painting.

Some other things that you may need are -

  • Water, soap and acetone to clean the glass
  • Color palette
  • Piece of clean cloth and some pieces of cotton

Collect all the things, or buy a glass painting kit, and get started. Give a boost to your creativity, and try to reflect your thoughts, ideas, and emotions via your paintings.
